ANGIE FOR CONGRESS

Congressional candidate Angie Craig and wife Cheryl share their story

Angie Craig becomes the first openly lesbian mother elected to congress

After losing by two points in 2016 to Republican Jason Lewis, Angie Craig decided to challenge incumbent Lewis two years later in Minnesota’s Second Congressional District. Facing a tough battle in a purple district, Angie introduced her children and wife Cheryl through an intimate and personal video portrait rooted in the tenets of journalism.  The depth and character of Angie is revealed through the eyes of her wife Cheryl, who encouraged Angie to run a second time for the seat. Angie showed the video at Minnesota’s Democratic Convention, and went on to win the race.

Client: Congressional candidate Angie Craig

This short film was created with Old Bridge Media to help voters get a more personal view of second-time congressional candidate Angie Craig.  The intent was to reveal her deep passion to listen and help others, her background as a journalist and a medical executive, and her family life.  The video was shown on Angie’s Facebook page, as well as at Minnesota’s Democratic Convention.

Role: Cinematography, Audio and Producer

Our team visited Angie twice in Minnesota to help shape the narrative and structure of this film.  On the first trip, we scouted locations, spent time with Angie and Cheryl, conducted our principal interviews, and shot some limited campaign coverage. We returned a few months later to do principal shooting with Angie and Cheryl over several days of campaign stops and home visits.

The Power of Truthful Storytelling

As a former journalist, Angie Craig recognized the power of truthful storytelling.  She sought to give voters in her district a more revealing look at her background and her values through truthful portraiture.  The response was highly favorable amongst voters, and Angie won a seat in Minnesota’s Second Congressional District.
